How Student Leadership at PSG Polytechnic College Shaped My Communication, Planning, and Management Skills
Introduction
Student leadership is not just about organizing events or managing responsibilities; it is about learning how to inspire people, solve problems, communicate effectively, and create meaningful experiences for others. My journey as the Program Executive of the IT Association at PSG Polytechnic College became one of the most valuable phases of my academic life. It was a role that challenged me, transformed me, and taught me lessons that extended far beyond classrooms and textbooks.
Being entrusted with this responsibility gave me the opportunity to work closely with faculty members, students, industry experts, and guest speakers. Every event we conducted required planning, teamwork, creativity, and discipline. Through these experiences, I developed important leadership qualities such as time management, communication skills, teamwork, budgeting, decision-making, and confidence.
First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our respected Head of the Department, Mr. A. Kathiresan, and our Faculty Advisors, Mrs. G. Preethi and Mrs. A. Haritha Deepthi, for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Their constant guidance and support played a major role in shaping my journey as a student leader.

Lesson 1: Choosing the Right Chief Guest Can Define an Event’s Success
One of the earliest responsibilities I handled as Program Executive was identifying and inviting suitable chief guests for association events. Initially, I thought inviting a guest was simply about selecting someone experienced.
